Dr. Frank Tiano is entering his 35th year in education and his 11th year as a school superintendent (3rd in Ludlow). Prior to being superintendent, he has served as an elementary teacher, an elementary and middle school building administrator, and an assistant superintendent. In addition to being an educational leader, Dr. Tiano has worked as a task force member for a school threat assessment and response team and as a board member for several educational collaboratives. He has also volunteered his time with community organizations such as Rotary Club, YMCA, and Chamber of Commerce. Currently, Dr. Tiano serves on the board of directors for the Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys and Girls Club and Ludlow Cares. His doctoral research centered around the reflective practices of school principals and he has presented on topics such as school safety, teacher home visits, and community outreach. In 2014, Dr. Tiano was chosen as 1 of 100 superintendents nationwide to attend the Superintendent’s Summit at the White House to sign the Future Ready Pledge with the President of the United States.
As an undergraduate at Bentley University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management, Dr. Tiano realized that he wanted to pursue a career path in education. A year later, he earned his Master of Arts in Teaching from Simmons University in 1990. That fall he began his ten year career in the Nashua, NH Public Schools District, first as a 5th-grade teacher and then as an elementary assistant principal.
In 2000, Dr. Tiano began a 15-year relationship with the public schools of Chelmsford, MA. Over that time, he served as an elementary and middle school principal, assistant superintendent for human resources, and superintendent of schools. In addition to working and raising his family, he completed his Doctor of Education in Leadership and Schooling from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2006. Prior to joining the Ludlow team, he served in leadership positions in the Framingham, Uxbridge, and Dover-Sherborn school districts.
Dr. Tiano assumed his responsibilities as the LPS Superintendent of Schools on July 1, 2022, the same day that he moved to Ludlow. He is looking forward to a great 2024-2025 school year.
