The Ludlow Public School currently service 446 students on IEPs from ages 3-22, who attend both in and out of district programs. We offer students services with a wide variety of disabilities and levels of needs, most of whom you will see in the public school setting.
In Ludlow, we have many different options for service delivery.
Inclusion Support- At all levels there are students who receive support within the general education classroom.
Substantially Separate Programs- At the elementary, middle and high schools the district provides specialized support for students who require more intensive instruction, 60% or more of their academic day.
LLD (Language-Based Learning Disabilities): This program is typically for students with at least average cognitive ability, but significant deficits in one or more aspects of language development, reading, written expression, and spelling.
Focus program: This program is primarily for students with moderate cognitive, language, and academic deficits.
Autism: The district offers a specialized program for students on the spectrum who are able to participate in general education for most of their academic day.
PreK Intensive Learning Program and Intensive Autism Programs K-8: These programs primarily provide support for more involved students with autism. Students with other needs are also served in this program.
SIP (Structured Individualized Program): This program is in the elementary, middle, and high schools to support students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Students may receive full-time support in a SIP classroom or may also attend general education classes with support.
Life Skills: This program is located at Ludlow High School and is for students that require academic support, support in daily living activities, and pre-vocational training.
Transition Program- Located at LHS, there are three major curricular components of the program: internship opportunities, independent life skills training, and a post-secondary experience at Westfield State University.
It is the responsibility of the Ludlow School District to locate, identify, and evaluate any child (ages 3-22) who is a resident of Ludlow and may have a disability. Referrals are generated from various sources (parents, physicians, school programs, Early Intervention, etc.). Evaluations may include speech, fine motor, gross motor, and/or school psychological evaluations. For further information regarding the Child Find Procedures please contact the LPS Special Education Office at 583-5665 ext. 11214.
