Harris Brook Elementary School Identified as MSBA Model School
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Tiano is proud to announce that Harris Brook Elementary School has been approved to become one of the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s (MSBA) new Model Schools. The Model School Program was created to effectively adapt and re-use the design of successful, recently constructed school buildings.
In February, 2018 MSBA approved $27,522,934 toward the $60 million school project. After a ceremonial groundbreaking in June, 2019, Harris Brook Elementary opened for students in September, 2021. Entering its third year online, the 106,000 square foot building is home to 618 students, grades 2-5, and over 90 professional and support staff members. “Harris Brook is a great example of an elementary school environment designed to educate children in the 21st century and our students, staff, and families benefit from it every day,” Dr. Tiano explained. “I am grateful for the commitment of the building committee to shepard a project of this size through to the finish line, as well as for the town leaders and citizens who recognized the need for not only a new school, but a new community facility, and dedicated themselves to filling that need.”
Building Committee, and former Ludlow School Committee, Chairman Dr. Michael Kelliher was elated to learn of MSBA’s recognition. “It’s an honor to see the hard work and creativity of all those involved in this project are being recognized,” said Kelliher. Current School Committee Chairman, Mr. Jeffrey Laing added, “We want the best schools for our teachers in order to provide our children with the education that they deserve and this project is a great step in that direction.”
